The Trump transition team has reported that several of President-Elect Trump’s cabinet nominees and appointees have been targeted by bomb threats and ‘swatting’ incidents. High-profile figures such as Elise Stefanik, Trump’s nominee for UN ambassador, and Lee Zeldin, nominated for the Environmental Protection Agency, were among those targeted.

“Last night and this morning, several of President Trump’s Cabinet nominees and Administration appointees were targeted in violent, unAmerican threats to their lives and those who live with them. These attacks ranged from bomb threats to ‘swatting.’ In response, law enforcement and other authorities acted quickly to ensure the safety of those who were targeted. President Trump and the entire Transition team are grateful for their swift action,” Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.“President Trump and the Transition are focused on doing the work of uniting our nation by ensuring a safe and prosperous future. With President Trump as our example, dangerous acts of intimidation and violence will not deter us.”

The threats, some of which carried pro-Palestinian messages, have prompted investigations by the FBI and local law enforcement, who are collaborating to ensure the safety of those affected.

“The FBI is aware of numerous bomb threats and swatting incidents targeting incoming administration nominees and appointees, and we are working with our law enforcement partners,” the bureau said. “We take all potential threats seriously, and as always, encourage members of the public to immediately report anything they consider suspicious to law enforcement.”

Swatting involves making false emergency calls to provoke a police response, and although the threats were not deemed credible, they have raised concerns about political violence.

The Trump transition team expressed gratitude for the rapid response from law enforcement. Despite these incidents, Trump continues to prepare for his upcoming inauguration and has recently announced several cabinet nominations.
