Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called the recent indictment against former President Donald Trump an example of “criminalization of politics.”

During a press call with New England media, the Governor shared his thoughts on Trump’s recent indictment in Georgia on Monday evening. “I think it’s an example of this criminalization of politics – I don’t think this is something good for the country.”

DeSantis shared his plans to “end the weaponization of federal agencies like the DOJ and FBI” if elected in 2024.

“We’ll have a new director. We will have new leadership in the DOJ. We’re going to make sure that there’s a single standard of justice in this country,” he added.

DeSantis stated that Trump being charged under RICO “was really designed to be able to go after organized crime, not necessarily to go after political activity.”

According to DeSantis, Atlanta is using “an inordinate amount of resources to try to shoehorn this contest over the 2020 election.”

A Georgia grand jury handed down a 98-page indictment against Trump and 18 other co-defendants Monday night. The 19 defendants altogether face 41 counts in total, including charges that, according to The Hill, “violated Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act for their alleged scheme to overturn the state’s 2020 election results.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called the recent indictment against former President Donald Trump an example of “criminalization of politics.”

Neither DeSantis’ nor Scott’s campaigns provided statements on the indictment when asked Monday evening but rather, commented on Tuesday, according to The Washington Examiner. Vivek Ramaswamy was ahead of all prominent candidates, denouncing the indictment on Monday afternoon. He called the indictment “politicized persecutions through prosecution” during a town hall event with NewsNation.

Despite Trump’s legal battles, he continues to be the front-runner in the 2024 GOP presidential primary – numbers skyrocketing with every indictment added.
