President Trump didn’t just have a bad relationship with most of the big tech companies, he had no relationship in most cases. There was one outlier though, Apple CEO Tim Cook, who’s at least had a decent working relationship with Trump since 2016. There has been an instance when Trump has even called Cook a friend.
With Twitter and Facebook going all-in on banning Trump from their social media platforms, Cook’s perspective on everything going on in the country is something many people want to hear.
Cook appeared on CBS Tuesday morning in an interview with Gayle King, and as for the riots themselves, Cook said anyone involved in them need to be held accountable. “This is not something that should skate. This is something we’ve got to be very serious about, and understand, and then we need to move forward.”
The conversation then turned to the elephant in the room, and King asked Cook whether President Trump should be one of those held accountable for the mayhem that occurred January 6. “No one is above the law,” Cook said.
“That’s the great thing about our country, we’re a rule of law country. I think everyone who had a part in it needs to be held accountable. I don’t think we should let it go. I think holding people accountable is important.”
Apple has been under fire from conservatives and Trump supporters for remover the Parler app from their App Store. Apple said it was because of Parler’s inability to take adequate measures to address the proliferation of these threats (of violence) to people’s safely.”
Cook has often been a voice of reason, and not as blatantly biased as some of his big tech cohorts are towards President Trump and Republicans. On the day of the riots lsat week, Cook sent a measured and thoughtful response that summed up his feelings. “Today marks a sad and shameful chapter in our nation’s history. Those responsible for this insurrection should be held to account, and we must complete the transition to President-elect Biden’s administration. It’s especially when they are challenged that our ideals matter most.”
