During an appearance on Fox News Sunday, White House spokesman John Kirby addressed the conclusion of the Secret Service investigation into the source of the cocaine discovered in the West Wing last month. Addressing the national security implications of the investigation, Kirby insisted that the Secret Service “did the best they could” to find the person responsible, further stating that “no one is happy” with the unsatisfactory conclusion.

As Valuetainment previously reported, the Secret Service announced on Thursday that the investigation produced no identifiable person(s) of interest.

“Without physical evidence, the investigation will not be able to single out a person of interest from the hundreds of individuals who passed through the vestibule where the cocaine was discovered,” the Secret Service said in a released statement. “At this time, the Secret Service’s investigation is closed due to a lack of physical evidence.”

After conflicting initial reports claimed the drugs were discovered in either the restricted East Wing library or a cubby near the Situation Room, the final statement establishes the location as “inside a receptacle used to temporarily store electronic and personal devices prior to entering the West Wing.

These reports were a particular sticking point for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who addressed the investigation with Fox News the day of the announcement. McCarthy also voiced his suspicions about the nature of the investigation itself, suggesting that it was nothing more than a coverup for the Biden family. The White House has “cameras 24-7,” he said. “It just seems to me when it comes to the ‘Biden, Inc.’ family, they get treated different than anybody else.”

Fox News Sunday host Shannon Bream played a clip of McCarthy’s comments for Kirby, then asked him to address the concerns of the “aghast” American public. Kirby replied that he “can’t really speak to the investigation that was done by the Secret Service,” but he is confident that “they did the best they could do to track down how it got there, and who it might have belonged to.”

“But, of course, look, we take this seriously,” Kirby continued. “It’s not the kind of thing we want to see happen. Now, it did happen in a visitor’s lobby area just outside the main West Wing. So it was a highly trafficked area. We’re going to take a look at how that happened. And obviously, if there’s things we can do to prevent that in the future, we certainly will do that. Nobody’s happy about this.

But while Kirby neglected to comment on the larger implications of the discovery of the drugs, the Biden administration’s critics were quick to seize on the allegations of a cover-up. Most prominently, conservative commentator and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson took the stage this weekend at Turning Point Action’s ACTCON2023, where audience comments caused him to spend nearly two minutes mocking the entire situation.
