Rockets and drones struck the Ain al-Asad airbase in western Iraq Thursday evening, where U.S. and other international forces were being housed. The Iraqi military reportedly closed down the area and launched a search operation into the origin of the strikes.
Two security sources reported having heard multiple blasts with the complex but said it wasn’t clear what damages the base sustained.

This comes less than 24-hours since drone strikes hit the al-Asad airbase as well as a base in northern Iraq. The U.S. intercepted all three projectiles, destroying two out of three. The third caused minor injuries at al-Asad, according to U.S. Central Command yesterday.
There were previous threats from Iranian-backed militias in Iraq that they would attack U.S. personnel due to America’s support of Israel.
An umbrella group of Iranian-backed militias, “The Islamic Resistance,” claimed responsibility for the two attacks and said it “heralds more operations” against the “American occupation.”
A drone strike also targeted a U.S. base in Syria yesterday called the Al-Tanf base, positioned near Syria’s border with Iraq and Jordan.
