Former President Donald Trump vowed on Saturday that, if re-elected, he will make the United States “the crypto capital of the planet” by ending government crackdowns on cryptocurrency and promoting it as a viable financial resource. Speaking at the Bitcoin 2024 Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, Trump laid out his plans for ensuring that the US remains at the forefront of crypto innovation.

“This afternoon, I’m laying out my plans to ensure that the United States will be the crypto capital of the planet,” he said, adding that “Bitcoin stands for freedom, sovereignty, and independence from government.”

Turning his attention to the Biden administration’s “unfair targeting” of cryptocurrency, Trump promised to fire Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler “on day one,” to thunderous applause from conference attendees. He further promised to create a crypto advisory council upon taking office, and said the federal government would retain Bitcoin assets seized from criminals rather than selling it off.

“For too long, our government has violated the cardinal rule that every Bitcoiner knows by heart: Never sell your Bitcoin,” he emphasized.
