Former President Donald Trump has arrived at the court house for his hush money trial in New York. This is the first criminal trial of any American president in history, and it is the first of the four legal cases against Trump to go to trial.

In this indictment, Trump has been accused of manipulating his business records ahead of the 2016 election to obfuscate his “hush money” payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, with whom he allegedly had an affair.

His campaign released a video edit on the unfairness of the trials to garner support for his presidency. “They want to take away my freedom, because I will never let them take away your freedom—it’s very sad,” he’s heard saying.

Trump’s simultaneous summoning to four legal trials while attempting to run a presidential campaign will see him “campaigning during the night,” as he put it, highlighting the gigantic workload ahead.

Before reporters at the court house, Trump called the case “an assault on America” and said “that’s why I’m very proud to be here.”

In a post to his Truth Social account this morning, Trump complained about the gag order imposed on him by the judge and called it a “Rigged Trial.”

The former president has also said he will not be able to have a fair trial in Manhattan, referencing its Democratic Party-aligned judges and jurors. Some legal battling is expected to occur before the selection process for the 12 jurors and six alternates unfolds. Judge Juan M. Merchan has said that the main criteria is “whether the prospective juror can assure us that they will set aside any personal feelings or biases and render a decision that is based on the evidence and the law.”

Trump plead not guilty to the 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
