The Trump administration has released over 10,000 previously classified documents regarding the 1968 assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, following an executive order to increase transparency about the deaths of prominent Americans. The files, now publicly available via the National Archives, were released after efforts led by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who announced that an additional 50,000 related pages were discovered and are being prepared for future release.
“Nearly 60 years after the tragic assassination of Senator Robert F. Kennedy, the American people will, for the first time, have the opportunity to review the federal government’s investigation thanks to the leadership of President Trump,” Gabbard stated in a press release.

“In the course of searching FBI and CIA warehouses for records not previously turned over to The National Archives, an additional 50,000 pages of RFK assassination files were discovered,” the press release continued.

The disclosure was strongly supported by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the late senator’s son.
“Lifting the veil on the RFK papers is a necessary step toward restoring trust in American government,” RFK Jr. said. “I commend President Trump for his courage and his commitment to transparency. I’m grateful also to Tulsi Gabbard for her dogged efforts to root out and declassify these documents.”
The move may reignite speculation about the assassination, including theories of a possible second shooter beyond convicted assassin Sirhan Sirhan. Limited redactions have been made for privacy, but most material is accessible, as part of a broader initiative also targeting records on the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr, with the former being released last month and the latter expected to be released soon.
Gabbard highlighted the significance of releasing these documents to the public after decades of secrecy.
“I’ve had over 100 people working around the clock to scan the paper around … [RFK’s] assassination as well as [MLK’s] assassination,” Gabbard told Trump during a cabinet meeting. “These have been sitting in boxes in storage for decades. They have never been scanned or seen before. We’ll have those ready to release in the next few days.”
