Top general in the United States, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Charles Q. Brown, warned Iran “not to get involved” in the Israel-Palestine conflict. This was said as Lebanese Islamist group Hezbollah fired rockets at northern Israel, and Brown felt the need to make a statement to prevent the conflict from expanding.
“We want to send a pretty strong message. We do not want this to broaden and the idea is for Iran to get that message loud and clear,” Brown told a small group of reporters. This marks Brown’s first public comments since being confirmed last month. He previously served as the Deputy Commander of U.S. Central Command, presiding over Middle East operations.

The U.S. military already began sending supplies to Israel and is parking an aircraft carrier strike group closer to the country. “It sends a very strong message of support for Israel. But it’s also to send a strong message of deterrence to contain broadening this particular conflict,” Brown said. He also compared Hamas to ISIS.
The White House, via spokesperson for National Security John Kirby, said on MSNBC Monday that Iran is complicit in Hamas’ attack on Israel. “Iran has long supported Hamas and other terrorist networks throughout the region with resources capabilities training,” he said. “And so in that regard, clearly, Iran is complicit here, but in terms of specific evidence on this, these sorts of attacks, no, we don’t have anything.”
According to Reuters, Israeli shelling of Lebanon killed at least three Hezbollah members on Monday, worrying many about an escalation of the conflict. Israel also reported that one of its officers was killed in a cross-border raid by Palestinians in Lebanon.
Stoking the flames further, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) suggested the U.S. and Israel should blow up Iranian oil refineries in retaliation against Hamas’ threat to execute a hostage for each bombing Israel carries out.
