Tesla issued a recall on nearly 700,000 vehicles in the United States on Friday due to a flaw in the tire pressure monitoring system that could fail to alert drivers of low tire pressure, increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall, which includes certain Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck vehicles, will be addressed with a simple over-the-air software update, a quick fix that doesn’t require visiting a service center, and is already being pushed to affected vehicles. This marks Tesla’s 15th of the year, with more than 2.7 million vehicles affected in 2024.

While some have criticized the term ‘recall’ for software issues, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) maintains its use, though it distinguishes between hardware and software fixes.
Owners of the impacted vehicles will be notified by February 15, 2025.
This is one of Tesla’s largest recalls to date, adding to a list of past recalls that have sparked criticism regarding media portrayal of the company.
Despite these challenges, Tesla continues to aim for higher delivery numbers in 2024 under CEO Elon Musk.
