Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman was hospitalized late Wednesday night shortly after attending the Senate Democratic retreat. He was admitted overnight for close observation after experiencing lightheadedness.

This hospitalization comes months after the senator suffered a stroke while on his campaign trail back in 2022.  However, the senator’s office staff commented that Fetterman did not show any signs of suffering another stroke.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Fetterman left the Democratic retreat asking his staff to pick him up and drive him to George Washington University Hospital, where he stayed overnight for observation. Initial tests did not show evidence of a stroke, but the hospital is still performing additional tests.

News broke out on Twitter of the senator’s hospitalization:

Fetterman suffered a stroke less than a year ago, and three days before the 2022 Democratic primary. Despite the stroke almost killing him, a procedure that implanted a pacemaker and defibrillator in his chest, and staying off the campaign trail for three months, the senator still managed to beat his opponent, celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz, in November.

Fetterman insisted throughout the rest of his campaign that he was on the road to a full recovery with no work restrictions. Since his inauguration, the senator has kept his schedule attending Senate hearings, appearances with President Biden and attending the State of the Union, Tuesday night.

Communications director Joe Cavello said in a statement, that Fetterman is “in good spirits and talking with his staff and family.” Despite concerns of whether or not Fetterman is seen fit to remain as senator in the time to come, prayers and well wishes are sent as he continues to be on the mend.
