Russia’s Black Sea Fleet headquarters in the city of Sevastopol, Crimea was struck by a Ukrainian missile attack on Friday. This was confirmed by the Russian-appointed governor of the city Mikhail Razvozhaev, who said it served as a warning to the annexed city’s half million residents that “another attack was possible.” He later called off this warning, but told civilians not to return to the city’s center.

The Russian ministry claimed five missiles had been shot down, with one crashing into a nearby grass field and lighting it ablaze. Sources believe the missile was a Storm Shadow supplied by the UK or France, which hold warheads of up to 1,000 lbs., but this is not confirmed. One serviceman is said to be missing and six individuals are said to be injured.

Dozens of ambulances rushed to the site as Razvozhaev warned citizens to stay indoors and remain calm. The HQ building was on fire and partially collapsed; the amount of emergency services sent over implied the fire was massive and could be burning for much longer.

Debris from the strike was scattered over hundreds of a meters. Police blocked off the surrounding area, and firemen rushed to the nearby Lunacharsky Theatre where fragments from one of the missiles fell. This is one of the most significant attacks carried about by Ukraine over the course of the entire war.

Yesterday, Russia struck cities throughout Ukraine with missiles and artillery, killing at least five people. Seven were injured in Kyiv as debris from intercepted missiles fell from the sky and crashed into windows and vehicles, lighting fires and collapsing buildings. According to Ukraine’s Air Force, it had stopped 36 of the 43 cruise missiles sent deep into the country.

The city of Khariv, closer to the border, was hit with S-300 missiles. Cherkasy was also hit, injuring at least ten, and an industrial park in the region of Lviv sustained heavy damages. The Russian Ministry of Defense said it targeted arms factories and intelligence centers with precision-guided missiles and drones, claiming “the strike achieved the objectives and all targets were hit.”
