Rudolph “Rudy” Giuliani, former Mayor of New York and legal adviser to Donald Trump, was disbarred (expelled from practicing law) in New York state today due statements he made in 2020 when challenging the general election results.
Giuliani was ruled by a New York Appeals court to be “disbarred from the practice of law, effective immediately, and until the further order of this Court, and his name stricken from the roll of attorneys and counselors-at-law in the State of New York.”
The decision claimed Giuliani argued he “lacked knowledge that statements he had made were false and that he had a good faith basis to believe the allegations he made to support his claim that the 2020 Presidential election was stolen from his client,” but “essentially conceded” the majority of the facts supporting the case against him.

Giuliani’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, commented that they are “obviously disappointed” but not surprised, saying their team “put up a valiant effort” but they “saw the writing on the wall.”
In other news, Manhattan prosecutors said they would consider delaying Trump’s sentencing for his criminal charges related to his hush money case in light of the presidential immunity ruling from the Supreme Court. The Office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg specified that they would delay the sentencing, which was previously scheduled for July 11th, by up to two weeks.
On Monday, Trump ally and his former adviser Steve Bannon surrendered to law enforcement and began his four-month prison sentence for being held in contempt of Congress. He arrived at Federal Correctional Institute Danbury in Danbury, Connecticut on Monday after the Supreme Court denied his request to avoid prison amid his appeals process on Friday. He had attempted an emergency appeal regarding his four-month sentencing in October 2022 after being found guilty for refusing a subpoena by a Congressional committee probing the January 6th riot.
