On Saturday, the Pentagon announced its plan to send air defense systems to defend military troops attacked in U.S. embassies from presumed Iranian-backed groups.

The groups are said to be actively supporting the Palestinian Hamas terrorist group, following the invasion and attacks in Israel two weeks ago. Tensions have risen significantly around the world since the attack, leading to massive protests blocking entrances to multiple embassies in Lebanon, Turkey, Baghdad and Jordan.

U.S. military readiness in the Middle East comes in response to what was said to be “recent escalations by Iran and its proxy forces” across the region, warning that Washington would “take appropriate action” against any possible war front.

In recent weeks, the United States sent a large amount of naval power to the Middle East, including two aircraft carriers, their support ships and roughly 2,000 Marines.

“These steps will bolster regional deterrence efforts, increase force protection for US forces in the region, and assist in the defense of Israel,” said U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin after ordering the activation of air defense systems and notifying additional forces of possible deployment soon.

According to ABC News, The USS Eisenhower and its strike group of a cruiser and destroyers is being redirected to the Middle East instead of to the eastern Mediterranean, where it was supposed to join the USS Ford strike group as an additional deterrent for Iran and Hezbollah from broadening the conflict between Hamas and Israel.

“Finally, I have placed an additional number of forces on prepare to deploy orders as part of prudent contingency planning, to increase their readiness and ability to quickly respond as required,” added Austin. “I will continue to assess our force posture requirements in the region and consider deploying additional capabilities as necessary.”
