A New York Federal Judge has mandated that a vast amount of court documents related to Jeffrey Epstein be unsealed as early as possible in 2024. The documents’ contents will unveil the names of many individuals who were affiliated with the disgraced financier and systematic sex offender.

The court order, made by Judge Loretta Preska on Monday, is part of a now-settled civil lawsuit concerning the allegation that Epstein mistress Ghislaine Maxwell conducted the sexual abuse of Virginia Giuffre. The terms on which the case was settled have not been made public, but Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison on the conviction of sex trafficking and luring girls for Epstein. After Maxwell asked for her conviction to be overturned in February, prosecutors urged the court to ignore the request and uphold it.

The documents are set to be released on Jan. 1, 2024. While a window of time (14 days) has been opened for dissenters to request that their documents remain sealed, Preska personally does not believe they should be allowed to do this since they have given public interviews on the Epstein situation. However, some people have already been successful in battling to get their names and documents removed from the collection. Others, like Alan Dershowitz, have already been named in the case.

Over 170 individuals are projected to be named in the hundreds of files set to be released. Some names may only be tangentially related to Epstein, having been mentioned in emails, legal documents, and other papers. The identities of some victims will remain undisclosed.

In the civil case, Giuffre claimed Maxwell recruited her at 16 years old to sexually serve Epstein. She also claimed between 2000 and 2002 she was directed to give sexual favors to a number of prominent figure in Epstein’s circle, including Prince Andrew of the United Kingdom. Prince Andrew has denied the claims, publicly expressing regret over his friendship with Epstein and commending the courage of Giuffre despite arguing her testimony is not credible and proceeds from questionable motives.

Preska’s ruling implies that the documents will include information on Cathy and Miles Alexander, a couple involved with Epstein. The Alexanders are thought to have run the operations on Little St. James Island between 1999 and 2007. Additionally, Haley Robson has been identified as one of the figures in the ruling due to her interview in 2020 about her role in trafficking victims for Epstein.
