Ahead of the anticipated pro-Palestine demonstrations on Friday and the potential for violence, the New York Police Department (NYPD) has ordered all of its officers to show up to work in uniform and be prepared for action.

“All uniformed members of the service in every rank, will perform duty in the uniform of the day and be prepared for deployment,” a memo sent out to all NYPD members on Wednesday read.

The memo orders all officers to get ready for Friday and says it will remain in effect “until further notice.” It said officers will not be granted excusals or shift changes. It also said the NYPD will be enhancing its security at all 77 police precincts and sending additional officers to monitor the city’s police buildings.

The NYPD also activated its Joint Operations Center (JOC) at its headquarters ahead of possible catastrophes. The internal memo called on multiple city agencies to alert the JOC “as soon as they become aware of any incidents related to this event” from Thursday through Sunday.

The memo comes after founder of Hamas Khaled Mashal called on Muslims worldwide to protest in support of Palestine and for neighboring countries to join the Islamist militant group in its ‘jihad’ or war against the State of Israel.

Mashal is calling it “the Friday of Al-Aqsa flood” and said this will “send a message of rage to Zionists and to America.” Mashal also allegedly called for global financial support from Muslims, terming it “Financial Jihad,” and for Muslim nations to send Hamas soldiers to fight against Israelis. “Funds are important but today we are asking for your blood and souls,” Mashal reportedly said.
