Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley will invest $10 million in television, radio, and digital media ads in Iowa and New Hampshire beginning in December, her campaign disclosed on Monday. This massive advertising push —Haley’s first ad buy of the campaign season—comes as the former UN ambassador attempts to overtake Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in second place behind frontrunner Donald Trump.
The slate of pro-Haley ads will run from the first week of December until the Iowa Caucuses on January 15 and the New Hampshire primary on January 23. These two critical party events will play a pivotal role in determining the Republican presidential nominee
According to documents obtained by the Associated Press, the Haley campaign’s advertising investment is more than five times what the DeSantis team has spent, though the Florida governor has so far only focused on Iowa. DeSantis has led Haley in national polls since their campaigns began, but the former South Carolina Governor has narrowed the gap between them considerably and has even tied with DeSantis in certain state polls.
“Nikki Haley’s momentum and path to victory are clear. The same can’t be said for Ron DeSantis,” said Haley’s campaign manager Betsy Ankney. “Nikki’s campaign is built to win the primary against Donald Trump and all polls show she is by far the strongest Republican against Joe Biden in the general.”

“It’s clear there is no way Nikki Haley can beat Donald Trump, and every dollar spent on her candidacy is an in-kind to the Trump Campaign,” a statement from the DeSantis team fired back. “Ron DeSantis has the best combination of endorsements, ground game, and message in the early states, which is why the former president continues to attack only him.”
Haley’s campaign also received an unexpected boost on Sunday night when fellow South Carolinian Senator Tim Scott suspended his presidential run unexpectedly. While Scott did not give Haley (or anyone else) his endorsement, Scott’s donors and supporters are expected the break heavily in Haley’s favor.
However, as a point in DeSantis’ favor, the Florida governor secured the endorsement of Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds last week, giving his campaign a needed boost ahead of the upcoming caucuses. With the popular governor breaking with tradition to endorse him, DeSantis is now also banking heavily on Iowa to determine the future of his campaign.
Frontrunner and former President Donald Trump still boasts a lead of at least 30 points over DeSantis according to the latest averages.
