Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has decided to skip President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, joining several other Democrats and political figures like Michelle Obama.
Pelosi, who has been a vocal critic of Trump and is recovering from hip surgery, attended his first inauguration in 2017 but has chosen to abstain this time without providing an official reason.

The decision reflects the ongoing tensions between Pelosi and Trump, who have clashed publicly over the years, including during Trump’s impeachment proceedings.
Other notable Democrats, such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, have also opted out, citing various reasons including Martin Luther King Jr. Day events.
Meanwhile, former Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama will attend the swearing-in but not the post-ceremony luncheon.
Trump’s previous critical remarks towards Pelosi highlight their contentious relationship, which persists into his second term.
