Microsoft has entered a 20-year agreement with Constellation Energy to purchase nuclear power from the Three Mile Island plant, which is set to reopen in 2028. This deal will provide 835 megawatts of carbon-free energy to power Microsoft’s data centers, crucial for the company’s AI operations.

The reactor at Three Mile Island, previously shut down due to economic issues and infamous for a 1979 partial meltdown, will become the Crane Clean Energy Center. This move marks Microsoft’s first dedicated nuclear energy agreement and aligns with its goal to operate on 100% clean energy by 2025.
