Duane “Keefe D” Keith Davis, a 60-year-old man who has been charged with the murder of rapper Tupac Shakur in 1996, has pleaded not guilty in Las Vegas court.
Davis appeared in court Thursday, Nov. 2 for his third scheduled arraignment on the charge of using a deadly weapon in a gang-related homicide. His arraignment had been delayed twice due to complications with his legal representation.
Dressed in a blue jumpsuit, a handcuffed Davis said he had not retained his own counsel but rather appointed a public defender. He also waived his right to a speedy trial. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 7.
Authorities confirmed they do not plan to use the death penalty against Davis.

As previously reported by Valuetainment, Keefe D has claimed P. Diddy ordered the hit on Tupac. While Davis has pleaded not guilty, authorities claim they have compiled a mountain of evidence against him.
Davis was indicted by a Clark County grand jury on a count of open murder with a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement in September 2023. Tupac was killed on Sept. 7, 1996 at the age of 25 in a drive-by shooting. Davis admitted to having been a passenger in the white Cadillac that opened fire on Tupac’s car.
The shooting followed a brawl at the MGM Grand casino between Crips and Bloods gang members, two rival street gangs that grew out of Compton, California. Law enforcement claim that Davis was the “shot caller” for the Crips and has been accused of being the orchestrator being the “retaliatory” killing of Tupac.
The reason it took so long to make an arrest is due to a decision made by the police to let Davis continue to build the case for them, according to Greg Kading, a retired LAPD officer previously involved with the investigation.
