Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear sparked controversy with comments about vice presidential candidate JD Vance on Monday, suggesting that the senator should experience a family member becoming pregnant through rape in order to make him reassess his stance on abortion.

Beshear criticized Vance’s past remarks that characterized pregnancies from rape as ‘inconvenient,’ asserting that such views lack decency and empathy.

Vance and his campaign condemned Beshear’s comments as ‘vile’ and ‘disgusting,’ calling for an apology and repudiation from Vice President Kamala Harris.

“What the hell is this?” Vance said on X. “Why is [Andy Beshear] wishing that a member of my family would get raped?!? What a disgusting person.”

Beshear later clarified that he did not wish harm on Vance’s family, accusing Vance of deflecting from his controversial stance on abortion.

The incident has heightened tensions between the Democratic and Republican campaigns, with significant backlash on social media.
