Israel declared a “state of war” after thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza by Hamas militant terrorists on Saturday morning.

The series of attacks and armed terrorists infiltrating parts of Israel were reportedly orchestrated by Hamas, an Islamic extremist group known for its ties to Iran. These attacks occurred during the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah and on Shabbat, the day of rest for many Israelis.

According to Hamas’s military chief Mohammed Deif, his militants launched around 5,000 rockets into Israel as part of their campaign called “Operation Al-Aqsa Storm.” Deif also called on Islamic nations to join in the attacks against Israel.

“We are at war, not in an operation or in rounds, but at war. This morning, Hamas launched a murderous surprise attack against the State of Israel and its citizens. We have been in this since the early morning hours,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced. “I convened the heads of the security establishment and ordered — first of all — to clear out the communities that have been infiltrated by terrorists. This currently is being carried out.”

Israeli officials reported a grim toll of at least 100 fatalities and over 900 people wounded as a result of these attacks, which targeted both military personnel and civilians.

Disturbing videos and images shared by Hamas depicted the bodies of Israeli soldiers and citizens. The terrorists were seen patrolling the streets, searching for Israeli citizens, and Hamas claimed to have taken numerous soldiers and civilians as hostages.

Iran celebrated this terrorist attack and congratulated “the Palestinian fighters.” Notably, these events unfolded shortly after President Joe Biden authorized the release of $6 billion in Iranian oil revenues in exchange for the release of five U.S. citizens held in Tehran’s custody.

“The United States unequivocally condemns this appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza, and I made clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that we stand ready to offer all appropriate means of support to the Government and people of Israel,” President Biden released in a statement this morning. “Terrorism is never justified.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s Parliament members opened their session Saturday by chanting “Death to Israel” and “Israel will be doomed, Palestine will be the conqueror.”

This terror attack occurred on the 50th anniversary of the 1973 Yom Kippur War when Israel’s Arab neighbors launched a surprise attack on the holiest day of the Jewish Calendar.
