Dr. Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin, the husband of “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin, has been named in a major RICO lawsuit in New York, accused of insurance fraud alongside nearly 200 other defendants. The lawsuit, filed by American Transit Insurance Company just before Christmas, alleges that Hostin and others billed the company for fraudulent medical services in exchange for kickbacks.

According to the suit, first reported by the Daily Mail, “Hostin knowingly provided fraudulent medical and other healthcare services including arthroscopic surgeries,” and then allegedly billed the insurance company  “in exchange for kickbacks and/or other compensation which were disguised as dividends or other cash distributions.”

Hostin’s legal representation, Daniel Thwaites, has labeled the lawsuit as ‘meritless,’ accusing the insurance company of using the legal system to avoid its financial responsibilities.

“It is meant to intimidate and harass doctors from collecting for care given to American Transit insureds and their passengers,” Thwaites added. “American Transit has rushed into the lawsuit without ever conducting an examination of Dr. Hostin or expressing any concerns to his lawyers.”

The case represents one of the largest RICO cases in New York, targeting alleged misuse of the state’s no-fault auto insurance laws.

Sunny Hostin, aside from her role on “The View,” is a legal analyst and former federal prosecutor, but there is no indication she is directly involved in the case.
