Greta Thunberg makes headlines, yet again, for getting arrested during a climate change protest. During a protest in southern Sweden this week, Thunberg was detained and charged with disobeying police after refusing to leave a site in the southern city of Malmo.

Thunberg joined in a protest organized by the environmental activist group named  ‘Ta tillbaka framtiden’ (Reclaim the Future) as they attempted to block the entrance and exit pathways to Malmo Harbor in protest of fossil fuel use.

In an Instagram post, Thunberg stated, “’We choose to not be bystanders, and instead physically stop the fossil fuel infrastructure. We are reclaiming the future.”

The group responded on Wednesday: “After blocking the activities that are burning our future, we are now being charged with criminal offences.” They continued, “while charges are being brought against us, the real crime is going on inside the doors we have blocked.”

These charges can carry a jail sentence up to 6-months and a hearing at the Malmo district court has been scheduled for the end of July.

Five years ago, Greta stepped into the ‘climate change’ spotlight as she began her “School Strike for the Climate” campaign in front of Sweden’s parliament in Stockholm.

Thunberg also founded the Fridays for Future movement with a small group of youths, essentially garnering notoriety around the world. You can find her today singing the same tune and blasting governments and political figures on their failed attempts in taking climate action.
