Newly appointed White House associate communications director Tyler Cherry has deleted nearly 2,500 social media posts in response to backlash against his years-long far-left online activism. In the deleted posts, Cherry, who is known to frequently wear women’s clothing and uses nonbinary pronouns, compared modern police forces to pre-Civil War slave patrols, accused former President Donald Trump of being a Russian asset, and promoted the “Free Palestine” movement.
Cherry, who holds degrees in Political Science, Civic Engagement, and Gender Studies, was hired as the Biden administration’s top climate communications aide earlier this month, coming off a three-year stint working at the Department of Interior under Secretary Deb Haaland. According to his LinkedIn profile, he previously worked for leftist media watchdog Media Matters for America between 2015 and 2017.
Less than a week after starting his new position, Cherry quickly began clearing out his social media history, deleting 2,496 X posts between Sunday night and Monday morning, per the Social Blade analytics website—but not before other social media users were able to take screenshots of the posts.
As first reported by conservative activist Chaya Raichik of LibsofTikTok, Cherry’s questionable social media statements stretch back almost a decade and provide the new comms director’s input on a variety of hot-button leftist issues.

In 2014, he spoke out frequently on behalf of the pro-Palestine movement, including one post about “cheersing in bars to ending the occupation of Palestine.”
In 2015, following the death of Freddie Gray, a Black man who died in police custody, Cherry wrote “Praying for #Baltimore, but praying even harder for an end to a capitalistic police state motivated by explicit and implicit racial biases.”
At other points in that same year, he equated police forces to “slave patrols” and voter ID requirements to “poll taxes,” declaring that “Neither slavery nor Jim Crow WERE THAT LONG AGO. We just evolved.” He also bragged about “ruining” Thanksgiving dinner by fighting his uncle on the subject of systemic racism.
“An apt time to recall that the modern day police system is a direct evolution of slave patrols and lynch mobs,” he wrote in one post
In the following years, Cherry called for the abolishing of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, accused Republicans of being focused on “white grievance politics,” and heaped praise on pro-Palestine activist Linda Sarsour.
Cherry also bought wholesale into the Trump-Russia collusion narrative, claiming that the former president only took office because of foreign meddling and domestic White supremacy.
His political posts were interspersed with frequent uploads about gender identity and queer rights, as well as photos of himself posing suggestively in female clothes alongside other men.

In response to online backlash against his social media activity, a White House spokesperson stated: “Tyler is an invaluable member of our team who continues to deliver for the Department of Interior and the American people.”
“No one should be targeted simply for being themselves. It is cruel and unacceptable,” the spokesperson added. “This is an administration that believes to our core in the principle that out of many we are one – and we are proud that people who serve in it reflect those values as well.”
On Sunday, Cherry took to social media to play off his past remarks as youthful indiscretion, publishing the sole post on his now-empty X page.
“Past social media posts from when I was younger do not reflect my current views. Period,” he wrote. “I support this Administration’s agenda – and will continue my communications work focused on our climate and environmental policies.”
