On Friday, former President Donald Trump promised to revive Title 42 border regulations to combat the “modern-day slavery” of human trafficking, further vowing to pursue the death penalty for sex traffickers.
In a campaign video posted to social media, Trump stated: “I will use Title 42 to end the child sex trafficking crisis by returning all trafficked children to their families in their home countries, without delay, and I will urge Congress to ensure that anyone caught trafficking children across our border receives the death penalty immediately.”

Title 42 was a COVID-era public health order implemented under Trump’s first administration which allowed the expulsion of migrants without granting them asylum hearings. Initially put in place to stop the spread of COVID-19, the order remained as a border control measure through 2020 and onwards until President Joe Biden repealed it earlier this year.

Trump, the current frontrunner in the 2024 GOP primary, has made the Biden administration’s “border nightmare” a central focus of his campaign. In contrast to Biden’s open-borders policies, Trump boasts of creating the “most secure border in US history by far” and promises to do so again if re-elected.
Trump’s pledge came after he hosted a private screening of “The Sound of Freedom,” the blockbuster anti-human trafficking film highlighting the reality of this international issue. Last week, Trump watched the movie at his event in Bedminster, New Jersey, alongside star Jim Caviezel, producer Eduardo Verastegui, and Tim Ballard, the former Homeland Security agent whose work provided the basis for the film.
Trump’s campaign video praised the movie as a “national sensation,” encouraging people to support it while also calling out the critics in “the fake news media” for ignoring it.
Trump concluded his video by promising: “Together we will end the scourge of human trafficking, and we will defend the dignity of human life.”
