Former President Donald Trump is projected to be the winner of the 2024 election, securing a second term in office after a razor-thin victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the key swing state of Pennsylvania.

When the race was called just after 1:00 a.m. on the East Coast, Trump had won three of the seven swing states: Georgia, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. These critical wins, compounded by a strong start in traditionally red states, gave the former president the 270 electoral votes needed to declare victory.

Simultaneously, the Republican Party took control of the Senate, flipping the chamber to a 51-seat majority after defeating key Democratic incumbents, including Sherrod Brown in Ohio, and successfully defending seats in Texas and Florida. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell will step down from leadership, leading to a competitive race among Senators John Thune, John Cornyn, and Rick Scott to succeed him.
