A Delta Air Lines flight carrying 80 people crashed and overturned while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport on Monday, resulting in 17 injuries, three of them critical.

According to available flight data, the plane was a CRJ-900 inbound from Minneapolis. All crew and passengers have been accounted for.

Video circulated on social media on Tuesday shows the plane making its descent into the airport with landing gear deployed, only for it to mysteriously flip over upon making contact with the ground. Both wings were torn from the aircraft as it rolled.

The crash occurred amid snowy conditions, following a weekend storm that deposited over 22 centimeters of snow. However, it is believed that a failure in the right rear landing gear, not the weather conditions, was the primary cause of the accident.

Emergency responders swiftly transported all 76 passengers and four crew members to nearby hospitals. Nineteen have since been discharged. Airport operations were briefly halted, but resumed after a two-and-a-half-hour delay.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada leading the inquiry.

Delta Airlines expressed their commitment to passenger care and gratitude for the emergency response that prevented fatalities.

“Our most pressing priority remains taking care of all customers and Endeavor crew members who were involved,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. “We’ll do everything we can to support them and their families in the days ahead, and I know the hearts, thoughts and prayers of the entire Delta community are with them. We are grateful for all the first responders and medical teams who have been caring for them.”
