A leaked medical report has revealed that Imane Khelif, the Algerian boxer who won gold in women’s boxing at the Paris Olympics, has XY chromosomes and internal testicles, confirming she is biologically male. The report, obtained by journalist Djaffar Ait Aoudia, indicates that Khelif suffers from 5-alpha reductase deficiency, a condition affecting sexual development typically found in biological males.

Despite earlier disqualification by the International Boxing Association for gender eligibility concerns, the International Olympic Committee allowed Khelif to compete in the women’s division based on legal documentation. Following that decision, Khelif’s Olympic opponent, Italian boxer Angela Carini, forfeited their bout after just 46 seconds, citing severe pain from Khelif’s powerful punches. In response to the backlash, Khelif filed a legal complaint with French authorities requesting an investigation into an online harassment campaign questioning her gender.

However, the new report highlights that Khelif’s testosterone levels are consistent with those of males, and she lacks a uterus, having undergone MRI scans that identified a micropenis.

This controversy has led to significant backlash against the IOC and has sparked discussions about fairness in women’s sports, with calls for Khelif to be stripped of her Olympic medal. Critics argue that the IOC’s policies have failed to protect women’s sports from potential male advantages.
