US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Ukraine will become a member of NATO today and said the NATO countries are working to make that a reality.

Ukraine will become a member of NATO. Our purpose at the summit is to help build a bridge to that membership,” Blinken said at the NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium.

He described the consensus on the issue as “rock solid” among NATO members.

This would be a significant shift in geopolitics, as the official charter of the North Atlantic Trade Organization (NATO) states that all member countries must come to the aid of another member should they be attacked. Additionally, Ukraine would hypothetically take on the duties of a member country in such a scenario, contributing a percentage of their GDP to the organization.
