Professional gambler and serial playboy Dan Bilzerian recently said on an episode of the “Mighty Pursuit” podcast that monogamy is superior to a hedonistic lifestyle–a realization he has come to only after sleeping with thousands of women.

“I have been having sex with three girls a day, on average—at least, at minimum,” he began. “If I only had sex with two girls in a day something was off.” He said the most he slept with in a single day was nine.

When asked how many women he has slept with in total, he replied “thousands,” unable to say a specific number.

And yet, he is now saying he has realized that monogamy is better. “I had this image in my mind when I was growing up of how awesome this would be.”

“I don’t know, what I kinda landed on is I think it’s better to have a monogamous relationship, strange as that is coming from me,” he laughed.

He explained his reasoning as follows. The only two options, in his mind, are having sex with an unlimited number of women with no strings attached and no emotions involved, using protection and not getting jealous if they sleep with other men, or staying with one person with total exclusivity. There is no in-between.

He discounted the idea of polygamy or polyamory, saying a man is unlikely to find a woman who is okay with them sleeping around…and if they are okay with it, they are likely in the relationship for the wrong reasons (i.e. money and status).

On the other hand, Bilzerian said having one “cool” girl who you have a “mental connection” with leads to better sex, a more relaxed life, fewer distractions, and greater focus for your energy.

“So I think there is hope to like, longer-term monogamy and staying on track with a woman,” he said, referring to a persistent narrative online that traditional marriage or monogamy is dead.

It is notable how Bilzerian does not base his view on a religious argument, nor on a civic argument (“it makes your country stronger”). He is still using a logic of hedonism—i.e. the belief that the measure of something’s worth is how much pleasure or comfort it brings.

Even according to a purely hedonistic worldview, monogamy is superior.

Take it from Dan Bilzerian, who has likely slept with more women in one year than you will in your entire life.
