We are nearing the time many artists anticipate. After working to make a chart-topping album or song for the year, celebrities hope to take home a Grammy. However, just being nominated is a success, especially for rookie artists.

Tuesday, the nominees for the Grammy’s 2023 are in, and Queen Bey is dominating many categories. Beyonce is nominated for 9 awards after dropping her album “Renaissance” earlier this year. Her 9 nominations include album of the year, record, and song of the year. According to The New York Times, Beyonce now has a total of 88 nominations and now ties her husband for having the most. She needs to win 3 Grammys in order to win the title of most Grammy wins. For now, that title is being held by classical conductor Georg Solti.
Beyonce will face off against ballad queen Adele in several categories, including Album of the Year. The last time the two women went against each other in the category was in 2017. Other nominees for Album of the Year include Lizzo, Coldplay, Bad Bunny, Abba, Mary J. Blige, Carlile’s, Harry Styles, and Kendrick Lamar.
The Grammy’s have often been criticized for allegedly failing artists of color and for insider manipulation in the voting process. Since the criticism and multiple artists boycotting the award show, officials have worked to make some changes. The Recording Academy got rid of its nomination committee and hired an anonymous group of experts. Some categories were deleted, some were added, including songwriter of the year (non-classical).
The Grammys show takes place on February 5th in Los Angeles. This will be the awards show return to normal operations since Covid.
