New CDC data show a sharp drop in teenagers identifying as lesbian, gay, or bisexual, and girls account for almost the entire decline.
According to psychologist Jean Twenge’s analysis of the CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey, LGB identification among 9th-grade girls fell from 30% in 2021 to 17% in 2025, nearly cut in half. The steepest drop was in girls identifying as bisexual, down from 26% to 13%. Among all high school girls, LGB identification fell from 27% to 22% in just two years, while boys dropped more modestly, from 9% to 7%. Twenge said the numbers look like a “free fall.”
