Trump’s Greenland Deal Changes Arctic SECURITY

The Home Team reacts to President Trump’s new Greenland agreement with Denmark and Greenland. Signed September 22, the pact preserves Danish sovereignty while significantly expanding America’s military access and long-term security presence across the Arctic island.
The agreement gives U.S. military aircraft broad rights to fly over and land throughout Greenland and expands American maritime access. It also supports additional defense areas at Narsarsuaq and Mestersvig while strengthening NATO’s Arctic security posture.
Greenland’s importance extends beyond territory. Its location makes it strategically significant for North American and North Atlantic defense, while the broader Arctic has become an arena of U.S., NATO, Russian and Chinese strategic competition. Critical minerals add another dimension. China controls roughly 70% of global rare-earth mining and more than 85% of refining and production, making alternative supplies strategically important. Greenland has significant mineral potential, but the security pact does not transfer those resources to America.
