The dockworkers’ strike on the East and Gulf Coasts, which began earlier this week, has been suspended after the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) reached a tentative agreement on wages. The deal includes a 62% wage increase, with the existing contract extended until January 15, 2025, allowing further negotiation on other issues such as automation.

The strike had threatened to disrupt significant supply chains, with warnings of severe economic consequences if prolonged. Both sides agreed to resume work immediately, affecting over 45,000 workers across 36 ports from Maine to Texas.
The White House had maintained its position of non-intervention, emphasizing the importance of the collective bargaining process.
