Notorious Venezuelan street gang Tren de Aragua has given a “green light” for its members north of the US border to begin attacking American police officers, the Department of Homeland Security is warning. According to a memo first reported by the New York Post, police departments in New Mexico are warning their counterparts in Denver, Colorado that gang members in the city may soon begin to “fire on or attack” law enforcement as the criminal enterprise expands into the central United States.

The memo from the Homeland Security Investigations office in Chicago reads:

Please see attached officer safety / awareness bulletin from the Albuquerque Police Department (APD). APD received information from federal partners regarding possible “green light” attacks on law enforcement from the Tren de Aragua (TdA) criminal organization operating in Denver, Colorado. Credible human sources from Colorado provided information on TdA giving a “green light” to fire on or attack law enforcement.

As many of you know, we have a TdA presence here in Chicago, so please be vigilant as you encounter TdA members or affiliates during your investigative and operational activities.

The FBI is also warning that Tren de Aragua members may team up with members of El Salvador’s MS-13 given that the two gangs operate in the same areas.

Denver has received more than 42,000 migrants in recent months, more per capita than any other US city.
