One of the residual effects of a divided country, where many people are only capable of seeing something through the extreme left or right lens that they approach it from, is the loss of civility in the U.S. It’s showcased on social media every single day, and another place you see less decorum and just common sense normal behavior is on airplanes.
One airline has taken note of this, and is doing something about it. Delta Airlines has announced that they will permanently ban passengers who disrespect fellow customers or crew members. Delta CEO Ed Bastian sent a memo to employees announcing his decision, and telling his workers the airline has already added over 800 people to its no-fly list because they refused to wear masks.
Fox News received a copy of the memo and quoted Bastian in a report. ”Please know that respect and civility to others on our planes, at our airports, in our workplaces and in our society – even when we have differences of opinion – have always been a requirement for our people and our customers,” Bastian wrote. “Those who refuse to display basic civility to our people or their fellow travelers are not welcome on Delta. Their actions will not be tolerated, and they will not have the privilege of flying our airline ever again.”
“As difficult as things are right now, remember that we are getting closer to recovery each day due to your hard work, dedication and commitment to our values,” he concluded. “Thank you as we keep climbing together into 2021.”
There are viral videos circulating that show Delta passengers verbally harassing Senators Mitt Romney and Lindsey Graham on separate flights they took recently.
Kudos to Delta. Maybe it’s a small step towards bringing back a little thing called common decency that has seemed to have gotten lost in this tense political climate we live in.
