Mass shootings happen in other countries too.
Serbia has some of the toughest gun laws in Europe. They instituted a massive gun buyback program, and require strict background checks with police. Any incidences of crime, mental disorder, alcohol or drug use will disqualify a potential buyer. They also need to pass a training course and written test about guns. And a medical exam must be given every five years if the gunowner wants to continue owning their gun.
But none of that stopped a thirteen year old from getting a gun.
He killed at least eight people and injured others in the capitol city of Belgrade.
It occurred at an elementary area in a wealthy part of the city. The gunman open fired with a 9mm pistol as well as a small caliber one, inside a classroom near the school entrance. He then called the police himself and waited for them to arrest him while he was waiting outside in the school yard.
His father was also arrested. Since Serbia has strict gun control laws, they might have done that to see if the dad left any of his guns outside of a locked cabinet. That’s one of the other key gun control conditions.
Police say the shooting was planned, they found notes and drawings from the gunmen detailing the upcoming attack.
Just goes to show, these tragic shootings can happen anywhere, gun laws regardless.
