Former President Donald Trump, who spends a great deal of his mornings playing his International Golf Club in Florida, is not technically working at the moment but is in meetings and discussions that will shape the direction of the country.
Pretty heady stuff for a guy who’s been out of the spotlight for a few weeks.
Everyone is curious about his next move, but one option seems to have disappeared from view.
That option? Trump will disappear from view.
Nope. That’s not happening, and Trump is reportedly figuring out various alliances from his home office at Mar-a-Lago.
The first strong indication of Trump’s thinking will likely come Sunday when he speaks at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
From a CNN story published Thursday:
“According to multiple people familiar with Trump’s current habits, who requested anonymity to speak freely to CNN about the former President’s day-to-day focus, his stated goal — barring impact from ongoing criminal investigation — is to run for president again, in 2024.”
Trump’s final days in office, of course, were tainted by the Capitol riots and Trump’s perceived role in failing to do enough to quell the violence.
Adding to the uncertainty is the lack of consensus by the Republican party.
The most influential leaders have differing views on how they would like Trump to proceed. It’s a dangerous game, given recent polling shows Trump as the favorite to win the GOP nomination for 2024.
His hold on the party remains strong.
Tuesday, former Georgia Sen. David Perdue – despite having filed papers announcing he’d run again – said he wouldn’t launch another campaign.
This came after a recent golf outing with Trump, per CNN, according to a person familiar with Perdue’s schedule.
