On Tuesday night, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will face off in their first televised debate, marking the first time the two candidates have ever interacted in person. The debate, hosted by ABC News, will provide Trump and Harris with a chance to outline their respective platforms and sway undecided voters ahead of what will likely be a historically close contest.
With less than two months until Election Day, here’s what to know for tonight’s event:
ABC News will broadcast the debate live at 9 pm EST across its affiliate stations, and online streams will be provided by ABC News Live, Disney+, and Hulu, as well as on the ABC app. SiriusXM will air an audio-only version on Channel 370.
The debate will be hosted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the National Constitution Center, with “World News Tonight” anchor David Muir and ABC News Live “Prime” anchor Linsey Davis serving as moderators. No live audience will be present during the debate.

Both Trump and Harris have agreed to ABC’s rules for the event, with will require candidates to stand for the duration of the debate, prohibit the use of note cards, and mute one candidate’s microphone while the other is speaking.
These rules, which mirror those put in place by CNN for the debate between Trump and President Joe Biden earlier this year, became a point of contention between the Trump and Harris campaigns in the weeks leading up to the event. Last month, Harris requested that all three requirements be reversed, allowing her to sit down, read from prepared statements, and keep both microphones live the entire time. ABC ultimately rejected these requests and affirmed that the CNN rules will remain in place.
