When Mark Zuckerberg isn’t busy buying out an entire UFC fight card for just him, his wife, and his inner circle to watch, he’s spending most of his time in the metaverse. He’s so obsessed with it that he changed the name of his company from Facebook to Meta.

He’s in a class of one regarding his zany love for it, and there’s one CEO more successful than Zuck who doesn’t even use the word meta.

It’s Tim Cook of Apple, and he said in an interview with the Dutch media outlet Bright that his company avoids the word metaverse because he feels the average person doesn’t understand what it means.

“I always think it’s important that people understand what something is. And I’m really not sure the average person can tell you what the metaverse is.”

During Apple’s earnings calls in 2022, the word “metaverse” was mentioned once.

Meta, on the other hand, used the word 36 times on theirs, according to a Yahoo report.

Here’s part of the problem, according to experts and executives of tech companies, there is no consensus on what the metaverse is.  Some feel it’s a real product, like virtual reality, while others describe it as a concept for a virtual world that might not ever exist.

Cook told Bright he’s more of a believer in AR than VR.

“I think AR is a profound technology that will affect everything. It’s something you can really immerse yourself in. And that can be used in a good way. VR is for regular periods, but not a way to communicate well. So I’m not against it, but that’s how I look at it.”

Seems like Zuck is on his own for a while. While he pumps $10 billion into the metaverse, Cook doesn’t let his employees even use the word in a sentence.
