The case was initially raised in a phone call between US officials and Romanian authorities, and further emphasized by Trump’s special envoy, Richard Grenell, during a meeting at the Munich Security Conference.

Sources indicate that a request was made for the Tates’ passports to be returned, allowing them to travel while awaiting trial.

Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu did not comment on the specifics of the discussions but reiterated the independence of the Romanian judiciary.

Grenell characterized his interaction with Hurezeanu as brief and claimed no substantive conversation occurred, despite expressing his support for the Tate brothers on social media.

The Tates, who have garnered a significant online following, have been vocal supporters of right-wing politics, with Tristan Tate asserting their influence on young people’s political views in the US and Europe.
