Ukraine Migraine: Rudy Giuliani Dealing With His Own Ukraine Headache
After months of calling for government investigations, Rudy Giuliani may now be on the wrong side of one, as reports are surfacing that the former mayor of New York City is being investigated over his activities in Ukraine.
According to a report from NBC, sources indicated that Southern District of New York prosecutors have made requests to view Giuliani’s emails. New York prosecutors would need approval by the Department of Justice before moving forward. It is not known if Bill Barr’s Justice Department has granted that approval.
Giuliani has reportedly been under investigation for his work in Ukraine, which was central into the impeachment of Donald Trump. Documents revealed last year showed Giuliani seeking to have Ukrainian government officials make substantial payments to his consulting firm. No evidence that the deals actually went through has surfaced.
Robert Costello, the lawyer for Giuliani, told NBC, “I have no reason to believe there’s any truth to the allegations that there is renewed interest in my client.”
The New York Times reported earlier this month that Giuliani had discussed a preemptive pardon for himself with Donald Trump. Giuliani shot down the report quickly on his Twitter account, saying, “#FakeNews NYT lies again. Never had the discussion they falsely attribute to an anonymous source. Hard to keep up with all their lies,” he wrote.
Giuliani isn’t the only one with Ukraine problems. Last week an email from Hunter Biden’s subpoenaed laptop showed that the president-elect’s son may have failed to disclose $400,000 in payments from Ukrainian energy company Burisma back in 2014. The Justice Department recently confirmed that it was investigating Hunter Biden’s tax matters.
