The past week has been buzzing with rumors of BET Media Group having a potential new owner, as Paramount reportedly plans to sell the majority of its ownership stake.

According to multiple sources, the media mogul Tyler Perry is rumored to be in talks of acquiring the company. However, he is not the only one eyeing this opportunity.

Byron Allen, the founder of Allen Media Group/Entertainment Studios, is also said to be interested in purchasing the majority ownership of BET.

Perry, who is currently a minority stakeholder in the company, has been associated with BET for over a decade. He first partnered with the multimedia company in 2005 while debuting his theatrical film, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, which was funded by BET.

Since then, he has launched several shows like House of Payne, Sistas, The Oval, Ruthless, Zatima, and Assisted Living, which are all available on BET and BET+. Additionally, Perry helped launch BET+ in 2019, two years after he signed a film and TV deal with the company.

If the sale goes through, Paramount plans to maintain a “commercial relationship” with BET. However, it remains to be seen which bidder will ultimately acquire the company.

Perry and Allen are both prominent figures in the entertainment industry, and their acquisition of BET could have significant implications for the future of the network.

In other news, Tyler Perry has been busy working on his upcoming war drama Six Triple Eight.

The film, which focuses on the all-Black and all-female 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion during World War II, features a star-studded cast including Kerry Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, and others.

Filming for the movie began in Atlanta in January and will continue in Little Bradford, Germany. Perry’s latest project promises to be an important addition to his already impressive portfolio of work.
