Trump might not be arrested until Thursday at the earliest, if it all.

Sorry to the progressives who got their hopes up, but the justice system is notoriously slow and bureaucratic.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg told the grand jury not to come in today (Wednesday). He told them to be on standby for Thursday, but didn’t offer a guarantee that they’d actually be convened that day.

None of this is that much of a shock. Court cases almost always get delayed when it comes active arrests. Matters of procedures will be added on, even before a pre-trial. It’s typical for an indictment to be delayed as much as a month often times, particularly in high profile cases.

Frequently, the grand jury has a desire to have more witnesses be included in testimony.

Just a handful of days ago, former legal counsel to Mike Cohen, Trump’s “fixer”, testified that Cohen would be unreliable on the witness stand. Prosecutors were planning on taking Cohen out of the bullpen.

Robert Costello, a known Trump ally, might have been responsible for the delay.

The other possibility? Bragg is getting cold feet. Keep in mind, the previous Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance sat on a potential Trump prosecution but never pulled the trigger. He had over a year and a half to do it. Vance has been a progressive Democrat all his life. But looking at the Stormy Daniels payments, he didn’t think there was enough for a felony charge.

Let’s say you’re Alvin Bragg. You’re a progressive prosecutor dealing with rising crime rates in your city, and you’ve made a new effort to not prosecute non violent offenders, or even some violent ones.

So you get some press to get voters to look away from that whole mess. You become a national figure, people who watch MSNBC know you.

For Bragg, it might be mission accomplished. He could launch a campaign for Attorney General saying he exposed the former president. But, he can claim, procedural court issues simply bogged his efforts down. That it was out of his hands. Blame the bureaucracy, take the mainstream media attention. That way, even without doing anything, Bragg will have something to brag about as he courts more Democrats for his future efforts.
