Former President Donald Trump was in “I told you so” mode in a Fox Nation interview on Wednesday, lobbing critiques at those who pushed back at his blaming China for the coronavirus pandemic.

His commitment to the Wuhan, China, “lab-leak theory” was suppressed during the COVID-19 outbreak in the U.S., and Trump is advocating that “we have to make China pay.”

As Trump forecast his opinion that the disease began with a leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, critics including the World Health Organization disagreed.

In light of new evidence and investigation, though, the theory is now becoming more widely embraced.

“I said it a long time ago, right from the beginning,” Trump said in the interview. “And when you look at Wuhan and that’s where it all started, and then you look at the Wuhan lab and that’s what they were doing, it seemed pretty obvious to me. I called it a long time ago.”

A report released in May said workers at the Wuhan lab were hospitalized in November 2019 after becoming ill with COVID-like symptoms.

In December 2019, coronavirus cases in China first reached the public’s attention.

“The Democrats fought it all the way – I don’t know why, it doesn’t make them look better or worse if it was Wuhan or someplace else, but they fought it,” Trump said.

Last month, President Joe Biden assigned the country’s intelligence community to pursue three-month reassessment of the situation.

An earlier investigation was deemed inconclusive.

The lab-leak theory is one of two prominent possibilities; the other is that the virus came naturally from animals and was passed to humans.

Trump believes that any current or future investigation will be conclusive because “China has now probably gotten rid of a lot of the evidence.”
