Former President Donald Trump announced a new campaign on Thursday pledging to make in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments free by mandating insurance companies or the government to cover the costs if he is re-elected. This move is seen as an attempt to appeal to women voters and counter criticisms from Democrats regarding his role in the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade.
“I am announcing today that under the Trump administration, your government will pay for–or your insurance company will be mandated to pay for–all costs associated with IVF treatment. Because we want more babies, to put it very nicely,” Trump said during a rally in Potterville, Michigan. “And for this same reason, we will also allow new parents to deduct major newborn expenses from their taxes.”

Trump also criticized Florida’s six-week abortion ban, calling it “too short” and suggesting he supports extending the timeframe. However, his campaign clarified that he has not yet decided how he will vote on the Florida ballot measure.
Trump’s announcement comes amid a broader effort to rebrand his stance on reproductive rights, an issue that has been a significant liability for Republicans in recent elections.
