Vice presidential candidates Tim Walz and JD Vance have agreed to participate in a televised debate hosted by CBS on October 1, setting the stage for their first faceoff since both of them joined their respective party’s tickets last month.
Walz was the first to confirm his participation in the event on Wednesday, accepting one of CBS’ four proposed dates. The network also floated September 17, September 24, and October 8 as possibilities. After confirming his preferred date, Walz awaited Vance’s response.

In response to Walz’s challenge, Vance confirmed on Thursday that he would participate as well. He also doubled down and called on Walz to agree to another debate on September 18.
“The American people deserve as many debates as possible,” he said, “which is why President Trump has challenged Kamala to three of them already.”
The American people deserve as many debates as possible, which is why President Trump has challenged Kamala to three of them already. Not only do I accept the CBS debate on October 1st, I accept the CNN debate on September 18th as well. I look forward to seeing you at both! https://t.co/63FyI99dKU

Walz has yet to confirm whether he will attend the earlier event.
Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are scheduled to have their first debate on September 10 hosted by ABC News. Trump has also floated two more debates on other networks, one hosted by Fox News and the other by NBC News. Harris has not agreed to either event. Trump has suggested that he will show up for town hall-style interviews with the networks if she declines to participate.
