It appears Dennis Rodman may take a break from,,, whatever it is he’s doing these days to jet off to Russia to help negotiate the release of WNBA player Brittney Griner, who was convicted of and admitted to transporting drugs into Russia.

She was sentenced to nine years in prison, and the Russian government is using her as a pawn to secure the release of dangerous convicted criminals being held in the U.S.

And that’s where Rodman apparently steps in.

The state department has not enlisted his services in brokering a prison exchange, Rodman has enlisted himself, and he only needs a visa to travel to Russia.  The “Worm” is confident he can get her out. This is what he told NBC.  In a restaurant.

“I got permission to go to Russia to help that girl. I’m trying to go this week.”

Griner pleaded guilty to drug charges in July and was convicted of smuggling drugs with criminal intent earlier in August. She’s been in Russia for 185 days and counting. She had played professional women’s basketball in Russia for six years. Unlike in the United States, where the sports is a non-factor, and WNBA teams play in front of sparse crowds, in Russia, women’s basketball is a bigger deal, which makes it even more perplexing why Griner would take drugs into a country that she knew dealt so harshly with drug users and drug smugglers.

The U.S. has been trying to secure Griner’s release and fellow American Paul Whelan in exchange for arms dealer Viktor Bout.

Maybe Rodman can accomplish what the U.S. Government has failed at for weeks.

Hopefully, he double-checks his luggage before making the trip to make there isn’t anything illegal in it.
