Chicago, meet New York. London, meet Chicago. Left-leaning leadership in some of the biggest cities in the world are getting more and more comfortable shutting things down in fear of Thanksgiving being nothing but a massive super-spreader of COVID-19. Chicago Democratic mayor Lori Lightfoot laid out her vision of another lockdown advisory Thursday, as COVID-19 cases rise in her city. Her advice to Chicagoans? Cancel Thanksgiving plans.

Starting on Monday, the mayor will impose a 10-person ceiling on gatherings such as weddings, funerals and other events, the Chicago Tribune reported. Lightfoot wrote on Twitter Thursday:

“A Stay-at-Home Advisory for Chicago will go into effect on Monday, November 16th at 6:00am. This advisory calls on all Chicagoans to do the following:

• Stay home unless for essential reasons

• Stop having guests over – including family members you do not live with

• Avoid non-essential travel

• Cancel traditional Thanksgiving plans”

Lightfoot laid out a pretty dire potential situation if her orders were not followed.

“If the possibility of 1,000 more people dying in the city in the next seven weeks doesn’t grab you by the throat, as it did me when I started seeing that modeling, then there’s little we’re going to do to move you,” Lightfoot continued.

And if residents of Chicago are thinking of violating any of her orders, well, they may want to reconsider. “If we see you violating these rules in any way, we’re not gonna hesitate to take action,” the mayor warned the 2+ million residents of the third-largest city in the United States.
